International Public Advertisement for Tenure Track Researcher for FY 2010
August 2010
TOKAI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF INNOVATIVE
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY
Tokai University, hereinafter referred to as “Our University”, is currently seeking three tenure track researchers at the TOKAI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF INNOVATIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY. For application, please read and follow information below.
Our University is recruiting three tenure track researchers in the 2010 academic year for a mentor researchers’ development program that cultivates researchers who can conduct research of international stature. This recruitment is being carried out under the “Improvement of Research Environment for Young Researchers Program” (From FY2010 through FY2014) supported by the Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
The goal of the Mentor Researchers' program “Innovative Academic Promotional System in Private Schools Capable of Reproducing First-Rate Researchers” is to develop personnel that will have the capacity to serve as role models for their younger researchers while carrying out their own first-rate research projects. A special ward called the “TOKAI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF INNOVATIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY” has been established within the University, and the tenure track system will be put into effect in order to develop personnel that our University needs.
Newly employed tenure track researchers at the TOKAI UNIVERSITY INSTITUTE OF INNOVATIVE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY will be provided with the opportunity to further strengthen their research and mentor capacity in an ideal environment which includes studying abroad and to acquire international competitive edge. After acquiring tenure, they will work as a tenured university instructor in undergraduate and/or graduate schools toward the development of future personnel through instruction and guidance in research.
For FY2010 and FY2011, the Program will focus on developing a program to cultivate researchers in the medical field who will lead human-subject research in the future. From 2012, the field will be broadened to include science and technology, and thereafter it is planned for a university wide system reform. For 2010, therefore, we are seeking personnel who can support the school’s future in research by pursuing a high impact research theme in a medical field with the will and potential to collaborate with clinical faculty members.
The tenure track system is a system where a young researcher gains experience as an independent researcher with a term of employment, and through a thorough evaluation, receives a tenured position. (From the outline for the Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology advertisement.) Our University has just begun advertising the position internationally this year. The term of employment is five years. Tenure track researchers who are recognized as competent after the interim evaluation held in the third year, and the final evaluation in the fifth year, will be appointed as a full-time tenured lecturer, associate professor or professor in the department and/or other area of the instructor’s choice and expertise. Please look over the information below for further details.
