FAQ for 2019

  How large is the space I can use personally?

We are preparing office space of approximately 36m2.  The layout and other aspects of the spaces are subject to change according to your research field.

  Will I never be tenured before the end of the fifth year?
You may be tenured if the mid-term performance evaluation in the third year gives you high scores.
  What is the chance of getting tenured?
We cannot be specific about the chance. We are looking for candidates who are promising for tenure, and sufficient tenure positions are open. As per appointing tenured researchers, the applicant’s potential will be strictly assessed, including his/ her performance during the tenure track period.
In the result of the review for Tenure Track as of April 1, 2019, seven (7) Tenure Track researchers out of eight (8) in this Institute have been appointed tenured position.
  You describe that you are prepared to welcome female researchers. What support and options are available?
We have available peri- and post-natal leave, and maternity leave available. Shortened working hours for childcare is also available. Moreover, as well as realizing an ideal working environment for both men and women, our University is promoting supportive measures for female researchers from the point of view of “Work Life Balance” in cooperation with other institutions in the university.
  You describe that you assist those living abroad with housing depending on their needs.  What assistance do you provide?
Support for your housing by IIST staff is available to meet your circumstances.
  How much is the salary?
The salary varies depending on the age and career. We make necessary considerations to make sure that the annual income would not decrease upon full-time employment five years later. The annual salary would be approximately 6,000,000 yen, if you are hired as a tenure track Junior Associate Professor. (No doctor's license)  Monthly wage is given at a per-month rate.
